Donna

On March 18, 2014 my wife of 33 years passed away from cancer. I was the luckiest person on Earth to have someone so loving and beautiful to be with a guy like me. She was extremely tolerant to all my imperfections and was so giving to allow me to pursue this hobby. Donna also was the greatest mother of all to our daughter, Anna. At least now she's someplace with no pain and enjoying some great music with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, John Bonham, Ronnie Montrose and many, many others. And as would most likely be Donna, she's probably asking them for their autographs for me.

Love you, Don. We miss you.

Hey there and welcome to my autographs page! Overall, it's a bit "pointless" but I guess I just want to show off a bit and display the over 1,000 individual rock and roll autographs I've been fortunate enough to acquire over the past number of years.

Music. It’s always been there for me. Since growing up listening to WABC-AM radio in the 60’s to the FM radio staples of the 70's... WPLJ, WNEW, vinyl records and cassettes, to WDHA-FM, Q104 and CDs to satellite radio and MP3s, music has been in the background of my life. I wish I could say that I enjoy ALL types of music, but all I can say is that I do enjoy a wider spectrum of music now than I did in my younger years! Obtaining these signatures has been and still IS a blast for me. I've equated this hobby to fishing. Sometimes you're there for hours, waiting...sometimes you get a bite and sometimes you don't. But when you do get that ”bite”, it certainly does feel rewarding!

I need to mention that I owe a great, great deal of thanks to a few people. First, my wonderful friend Dave Iozzia of davesontour.com for graciously hooking me up with SO much great stuff! Check out his site and his awesome drumstick collection!! Many thanks, Dave...YOU ROCK! Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, NJ...thanks to their many in-store appearances of so many great bands. Also, the folks at WDHA-FM for their outstanding friendship and courtesy...allowing me to just "hang out" whenever they had some in-studio guests coming by. Terrie Carr and Curtis Kay...you guys are THE BEST and continue to be the ultimate DJ's on the radio! (I also need to shout out to former DHA jock, Rob Moorhead as well!) And thanks to the many other places where I've just stood for hours, just waiting, without being hassled (well, not too much, anyway). Thank you all so much for letting me share in the moments to meet these artists!

And, of course, thanks to the many artists here who were courteous and patient enough to sign whatever crap I stuck in front of them. For the most part, everybody was very cool about throwing down a signature for me. And for those very few of you who were a little grumpy about it...HEY! It's great to be a huge music fan and then have the opportunity to meet the artist(s) face-to-face and say thanks for some great tunes.

Recently I’ve come to the conclusion that there are some artists that I will, most likely, never get to meet in person so I've embarked on additional sources to supplement my collection. One has been some online auctions and the other has been through sites like the now defunct Pledge Music and Newbury Comics where you are able to buy pre-signed items. I make note of which items are purchased items and which are from auction sites. I went through a burst of getting autographs this way, but I’m not going that route anymore because, to me, it diminishes the thrill of getting the autograph in the first place! Plus, it can get a little expensive!!

I have to mention, at the time I'm posting this update, the world is dealing with the COVID-19 virus. The virus is extremely contagious. So, it would certainly have an impact on doing something like meeting an artist and getting an autograph! With that in mind, I have been very fortunate to have built this collection to this point and we'll see where it goes from here! Be safe!

I hope that whoever you are that views this site will get a kick out of seeing it as much as I enjoyed getting these autographs! These ain't for sale! I just like getting 'em…that is unless, there's someone out there who wants to pay me a couple of thousand $$$ for one, well...maybe we should talk! And, if by some chance, you are a famous rock and roller who stumbled across this page and would like to add to my collection or just wanna chat about this stuff... E-MAIL ME!! at pldesigns@comcast.net (PS- Put something like "Phil's R&R Autographs" or something like that in the subject line so I don't think it's junk e-mail and delete ya!!) Enjoy! Later....

Please Note: I have these autographs split over 2 pages. In some cases, when you click on a link to those names listed M through Z, the images may not load fast enough to drop you at the correct spot. Therefore, you may need to scroll up or down a bit!

1910 Fruitgum Company (2016)

Who else but my bud, Dave Iozzia, could get me a signed setlist by the guys in 1910 Fruitgum Company? Granted, it's the 2016 line up consisting of Frank Jeckell (original guitarist), Mick Mansueto, Glenn Lewis, Bobby Brescia and Keith Crane. C'mon, you remember the hits....Simon Says and 1, 2, 3 Red Light!!

4 Non Blondes

Ummmm, ok, so you may be wondering about THIS item...well, thanks to my pal, Dave Iozzia, for finding this very unusual fan artwork, that I assume is supposed to be the band's founder, Linda Perry? I am not 100% positive if it's an exact likeness or not, but it is signed by other band members Dawn Richardson, Roger Rocha and Christa Hillhouse.

Mindi Abair

My best friend, Bob, had been talking about this saxophonist, Mindi Abair, for a number of years. He always expressed a desire to see her live and that day finally came in February 2017 at BB Kings in NYC. We had great seats right up front and she put on a fantastic show. After the show, Mindi met with fans and signed stuff. I had her sign the promo poster from BB Kings and her live CD, which was also signed by guitarist Randy Jacobs, bassist Derek Frank and drummer Third Richardson, all members of her backing band, The Boneshakers. A few weeks before the show, I had also purchased a limited edition print, also signed by Mindi.

I caught up with former Skid Row and current Four By Fate drummer, Rob Affuso, at the 2016 Food Truck and Rock Carnival. Rob wasn't able to attend the instore performance and CD signing held at Vintage Vinyl a few weeks earlier and since I didn't have their CD with me, I just had hime sign an index card.

Ahmir

I recently acquired a huge stack of CDs that I've been selling at a local flea market. Among all of the CDs, I found a handful of them autographed! Among them was this one by the band, Ahmir, an R&B/pop band out of Boston. Apparently signed by all of the members.

Doug Aldrich

Me and my pal Dave Iozzia (of davesontour.com) caught up with guitarist Doug Aldrich (along with drummer Tommy Aldridge and guitarist Reb Beach) on a hot afternoon in July during soundcheck for Whitesnake. Doug is a great player who's appeared on many a great rock album and numerous tribute CDs (like the Queen tribute disc shown below...cover design by Chuck Wright).

UPDATE - Caught up with Doug during a promo stop at WDHA promoting The Dead Daisies live CD. While there, I had him sign my copy of Revolution Saints debut CD.

Tommy Aldridge

Tommy has drummed for just about everybody...Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers, Ozzy, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent, Thin Lizzy and so on... So, one morning I'm taking a business trip and waiting for a flight out of Newark Airport. My friend Joe Trezpla and I are grabbing a cup of coffee at one of the snack bars before the flight. As we're sitting there by the window, this tall, skinny guy with a big blond "afro" goes strolling down the terminal!! I knew (by the hair!) exactly who that was, so I grab my coffee and head down to the waiting area. I grab Tommy (who's on his way back home after recording with Ted Nugent) and get a quick autograph. My apologies to bass player, Marco Mendoza who was travelling along with Tommy and who I totally ignored. It WAS very early in the AM!

UPDATE - Another hot July day in the parking lot of the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. Whitesnake is on tour and my pal Dave Iozzia and I sweat it out again waiting to meet the guys in the band. This time the lineup includes Reb Beach on guitar, Doug Aldrich on guitar and Tommy on drums. We grab the guys as they arrive for soundcheck and are told David Coverdale does not do soundchecks...so it's a no-show from David.

Framed autograph with photos.

Alice In Chains

Another nod to my pal Dave on this one...and risking his life to get it!! Well, not exactly. It seems the "reformed" Alice In Chains find themselves on a bit of a pedestal these days. It was the first (and maybe not the last) time that Dave was PHYSICALLY escorted to his car while hanging in the parking lot of the Starland Ballroom during soundcheck hours!!! Before being "shown the exit", Dave was able to snag original AIC drummer Sean Kinney on these pieces. YEESH!

UPDATE - Auction item. Found this item and thought it 'd be nice to have something signed by the original band, including Layne.

UPDATE 2 - Purchased item. I picked up this band-signed CD from Newbury Comics.

Rick Allen (Def Leppard)

I had a great opportunity to meet Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen during his appearance ay The Wentworth Gallery in Short Hills, NJ. Rick was there to promote his artwork (which I love most of but it's a bit too outside MY price range!). Us fans who were there just to see Rick had to wait until the gallery's promotion was over, but once that was done, Rick was amazingly gracious to meet, chat and take pics with the fans that waited so long. Kudos to Mr. Allen for being generous with his time with the fans!

Gregg Allman

Auction Item. Came across this copy of Win, Lose or Draw LP on an auction site and thought it was a nice item signed by Gregg.

RIP, Gregg Allman. I never caught the Allman Brothers live but was fortunate to see Gregg open for The Doobie Brothers a couple of years back.

Almost Queen

Recently on the Bio channel there was a biography of Queen. It reminded me of what I liked about Queen's music. A month or so later, Almost Queen was putting on a free, Summer concert at a local park. Almost Queen consists of Joe Russo as Freddie Mercury, Randy Gregg as John Deacon, John Cappadona as Roger Taylor and Steve Leonard as Brian May. The band put on a great show, running thru Queen's hits and the crowd loved 'em! After the show the guys were available for meet and greets. It gave me a chance to meet up with Randy Gregg who had signed an Angel setlist a few years earlier!

Herb Alpert

Auction item. There are a number of items I've obtained from purchases and auctions, just to add to my collection. Some have "memories" attached to them and this is one of those items. Certainly not a "rock" artist but I have fond memories of hearing Herb Alpert music pouring from my dad's stereo in our basement in my childhood home. Like Tom Jones, Alpert was (and seemingly still IS) just a fucking cool ass dude! It may not seem like it, but the music and everything around it just seeps sexy!! I guess I know now why my dad liked it! So happy to add this guy to my collection! Maybe someday I can get one in person.

UPDATE - Auction item. I added this signed LP (with the amazing CLASSIC cover!) as the album was part of a group of misc. items from a local auction.

Alter Bridge

Alter Bridge, made up of 3 former members of Creed along with Myles Kennedy on vocals, was hitting the Starland Ballroom with Another Animal. I was only able to hook up with bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips, who signed my Alter Bridge CD as well as 2 Creed discs, before I had to head off.

UPDATE - Essential see: Creed...but I've now added Mark Tremonti's autograph to the Alter Bridge CD. Hopefully Myles Kennedy someday....

UPDATE 2 - Purchased item. Bought a pre-signed copy of the band's latest CD from Newbury Comics, signed by all 4 members. STILL hoping to meet Myles someday... SOMEDAY!!

UPDATE 3 - FINALLY!!!! Myles and Mark made a stop at the WDHA studios recently and NOW my debut Alter Bridge is COMPLETE!! Myles also added his signature to the live CD as well!

America's Got Talent (2010)

For the past few years we've enjoyed watching NBC-TV's talent show, America's Got Talent. After the 2010 season ended (and singer Michael Grimm was announced as the grand prize winner...where is HE now??) they decided to take the top 10 finalists on the road for a short U.S. tour with one of the stops being at The Beacon Theater in NYC. Donna, Annie and I scored tickets to the show and afterwards we all hung out by the multiple tour buses and meet and greet some of the performers, a number of which signed the program booklet we had (as well as one of the guys from Fighting Gravity who signed Annie's T-shirt). Here I just highlight the three main musical acts on the tour...Michael Grimm, the flamboyant Prince Poppycock (John Quale) and Taylor Mathews.

Angel (2004)

Since Angel was formed back in the 70's, I felt I needed to include the 2004 date above. My friend, Dave Iozzia of davesontour.com picked this up for me during one of his interview tours. Signed by original Angel vocalist, Frank DiMino, drummer Barry Brandt, Randy Gregg, bass; Steve Blaze, guitars; and Michael T. Ross, keyboards.

Another Animal

THIS is a GREAT CD!! Find it and BUY IT! I am personally told (by one of the guys in the band) that this is NOT a one-time-only project. Another Animal is made up of former and current members of Godsmack (Tony Rombola, Lee Richards, Shannon Larkin and Robbie Merrill) along with great vocals by former Ugly Kid Joe frontman Whitfield Crane. The guys were fantastic to meet and chat with...they all signed the AA disc and Robbie, Tony and Shannon signed a couple of Godsmack discs for me. Thanks guys!!

Phil Anselmo

I caught up with the Pantera and Down vocalist at the 2016 MonsterMania Con. Every once in a while, these "monster conventions" have other, diverse guests like musicians, etc. Phil tried to be "cute" signing my Down CD for another Phil (me) but with a too soft silver Sharpie, it's a bit muddy!

Anthrax

The original lineup for Anthrax has gotten back together and were doing a show/DVD shoot at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville. My pal Dave Iozzia of www.davesontour.com and I hung out for a while, hoping to grab the guys as they showed up for soundcheck. Bassist Danny Spitz showed up first, had his hands full on they way in and promised to come back out to do a signing (didn't happen). Drummer Charlie Benate (signed in blue) showed up next and at first passed on signing, but then came back out. The rest of the band showed up about an hour later...Joey Belladonna and Frank Bello signed next. I missed out on Scott Ian as he slipped in while I had Joe's attention.

The Appice Brothers (Carmine and Vinnie)

Purchased item. One of the first items I purchased from Pledge Music, back when I first discovered the website, has finally arrived! An incredible album by rock's drumming siblings!! Having met both Carmine and Vinnie a number of times over the years at different events, it would almost seem pointless to buy this, but it's such a great, great rock album!

Carmine Appice

This is probably my first rock and roll autograph. Loria Music in Rahway, NJ was holding a "drum clinic" with Carmine as their guest. John Sykes' Blue Murder had just released their first CD. I somehow had a promo copy CD single of the song Valley of the Kings (my favorite Blue Murder tune!!) which I brought with me to the clinic. Carmine signed this and a poster, which is long gone.

UPDATE - Met up with Carmine again at an event where I had him sign on of his Guitar Zeus and Vanilla Fudge CDs.

UPDATE 2 - Again, caught up with Carmine at a recent Chiller Con where he was promoting his book, so naturally I grabbed a copy!

Vinny Appice and Jimmy Bain

The powerhouse rhythm section of many great metal bands of the 80's...Dio, Black Sabbath, WWIII...were now on tour as the Hollywood Allstars. The Allstars includes Vinny on drums, Jimmy on bass, Charlie West on vocals, Carlos Cavazo on guitar and Krigger on a second set of skins!!. My pal Dave Iozzia, his cousin Rocco and I hung out outside Double D's in Morristown, NJ before the show. The guys all arrived together and I have to say...the NICEST bunch of guys ever! Sorry I couldn't make the show, but I'm looking forward to a future recording by THIS line-up!

UPDATE - I met up with Vinnie again when he was pounding the skins for Black Knights Rising on the 2015 Extreme Guitar Tour at BB King's in NYC. He was gracious to all the fans after the show (as always) and chatted and signed for everyone.

UPDATE 2 - Caught up with Vinnie once again during the Last In Line tour. Here I got two very smudged signatures on a Rick Derringer and 3 Legged Dogg CD inserts.

Thanks to my pal, Dave Iozzia, I had an opportunity to see ARW, a band made up of former members of YES...Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman. ASIA

THE supergroup of the 80's, ASIA reformed with all the original members recently and hit the road with one of those stops being here in NJ. Once again my buddy Dave Iozzia was on the job at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ. Unfortunately members John Wetton and Steve Howe were a bit difficult to "get at" and were only able to sign the vintage photo below. Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes were more than happy to sign whatever crap Dave passed in front of their faces. Thanks guys!

Sebastian Bach

An outstanding WDHA "happening"...the station had run a promo on their website to enter a drawing for "Absolutely Live...in the studio with Sebastian Bach". I showed up to just hangout outside the studio in hopes of grabbing a quick autograph and photo, when DJ Terrie Carr pops her head out to inform me that one of the winners cancelled and would I like to hangout inside? (The answer here is obvious!!) Sebastian Bach...former Skid Row vocalist, solo artist, Broadway actor (Jekyll & Hyde, etc) and TV star (Gilmore Girls)...was animated and happy to see everybody. He signed autographs, stood for photos and fielded questions from the listeners all while his 11 year old son, London, videoed everything! Great guy! Thanks, Terri!!

After the breakup of Tesla, some of the band members formed other bands. Bar 7 was a new band formed by vocalist Jeff Keith and guitarist Tommy Skeoch. I was the only fan at the store!! I had picked up the Bar 7 disc and had brought some Tesla inserts with me as well. Also signed by Bruce Johnston, who joined The Beach Brothers for live performances in 1965. Before going solo, Michael did 2 albums with the band Blackjack (with guitarist Bruce Kulick who was in KISS!). Then his first two solo albums after Blackjack were rockers!! (Check out Everybody's Crazy from 1985!) Sure, it's a very heavy 80's sound but still rockers! And even tho he went in a different direction, I still respect the man (especially after he did those self-deprecating Honda Christmas ads a few years ago!). During the Summer of 2019, my pal Dave Iozzia scored us backstage and photo passes for the Shinedown show at the PNC Arts Center in Jersey. (I should say that those passes came via the band Badflower.) Another band on the opening slot was the English group, Broken Hands. I don't remember how Dave got the promo CD from the band, but while waiting between shows, vocalist Dale Norton was making his way through the crowd and that's when I snagged his signature.

Dave and I caught up with the guys from Buckcherry while doing a stop at the Starland Ballroom. I have to say, all the guys were great, taking a few seconds out of their busy evening before the show to chat and sign. I had vocalist Josh Todd sign the CD inserts in silver. The rest of the band, guitarists Keith Nelson and Stevie D., bassist Jimmy Ashhurst and drummer Xavier Muriel signed the insert for their latest CD, 15, in black. Many thanks!!

For whatever reason, I've been on a "mission" to add Glen's signature to my collection. I've enjoyed his music since I first heard Talking In Code and I guess knowing that he's a "Jersey Guy" just made it that much more important. Recently I finally caught up with Glen at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, NJ while on tour performing Beatles songs along with Marshall Crenshaw and Liberty DeVitto (Billy Joel's former drummer). Jon Butcher

I've been a fan of Jon Butcher since day one with The Jon Butcher Axis. During the Wishes Tour, I was lucky enough to get Jon's autograph as he returned to the club from dinner. Many years later, I picked up an early release copy of Jon's latest disc... which came with a pick and an autographed tray insert.

UPDATE - I have been a fan of Jon's since day one. I was lucky enough to meet him once back in the mid-80's and it scored me an autograph and a chance to say "hi!" Fast-forward to July 2010 and the first annual "Weekend of 100 Rock Stars" Con here in NJ. I originally blew it off because I wasn't overly impressed with the lineup of guests...until I saw that Jon was going to be there!!! Admittedly, a bit over-the-top, but I had Jon sign EVERYTHING and I had the fantastic pleasure of talking with him (and Charlie Farren) for a few minutes. Thanks, Jon and PLEASE come to Jersey more often!!!

Candlebox...well...

OK, it's like this... the original members of Candlebox recently regrouped and hit the road. I couldn't make the autograph stalking so it was up to my pal Dave I. Now, alot of time has passed since these guys made these CDs. EVERYBODY has a haircut these days!! Anyway, original drummer Scott Mercado signed these...as did TOURING GUITARIST Sean Hennesy.

UPDATE - OK, now THIS is better...! During a recent stop at WDHA on a promo run for their new album, Love Stories and Other Musings, Kevin Martin, Peter Klett and Sean Hennesy stopped in and performed some acoustic numbers. So this gave me the opportunity to update some CD booklets and score the signed promo photo. Very cool! Always loved these guys!

BEST, BEST, BEST THING EVER!! Many thanks to the folks at WDHA-FM, especially Curtis Kay and sales exec, Valerie Freda. WDHA ran the "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner" promotion where one person would be picked to have lunch with the band at The Hard Rock Cafe in NYC and then tix to the show that night (and also an overnight hotel stay in NYC as well). Well, I won it and it was better than expected!! For about 2 hours, my wife Donna, myself and a small number of other winners from the tri-state area got to rub shoulders, chat, drink and munch with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith. As you can see, they were more than generous with their time and signatures. It was great to finally meet Sammy after being a huge fan for years and he added his signature to some pieces signed last year by The Waboritos. Incredible that vocalist and musician, John Corabi, performed nearby at The Crossroads, in Garwood, NJ. In the 80's he fronted a band called The Scream...excellent CD! When Vince Neil left Motley Crue, John was the replacement vocalist (for just one album though....) and he also was part of Union and ESP with guys like Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick! Cry of Love was one of those "blues-rock" styled bands formed in the mid 90's. They only released 2 CDs, each one with a different vocalist. WDHA was holding a charity auction at Compact Disc World in the Menlo Park, NJ store. A majority of the items up for bid were stuff signed by rock artists. Alot of the items were a bit beyond my financial means at the time, but I was able to bid on and win this Fender guitar autographed by the band.

The real story here is that my great pal, Dave Iozzia suffered scrapes and bruises and shed BLOOD to get this setlist!! Well, actually, no...the setlist came easy...it was Dave leaping over a fence around the soundboard to grab the tamborine Ian Astbury tossed in the audience that caused all the physical damage...but he GOT the tamborine!!

In the 70's, Cherie Currie was the voice of The Runaways. Whenever you hear the song Cherry Bomb (like in The Guardians of the Galaxy movie)...that's her singing! Aside from the rockin' music The Runaways gave us, there was an obvious appeal to a many male fans. After The Runaways, Cherie did some solo work and has appeared in movies and TV. I met up with Cherie at the 2014 Chiller Con where she signed my ORIGINAL copy of the first Runaways and her solo LPs. And she still looks great!

Joey D'Angeli

I met Joey (former lead vocalist of ROXX) at the 2009 Chiller Convention. Ironically, not there signing specifically, but he's currently involved in The Wild Life Animal Conservation Center in Ridgefield Park, NJ (www.njbatman.com) and they had a live bat display at the con. The display itself was very cool and informative (my daughter LOVED it!!) and Joey himself was very personable and friendly! Thanks!!

Danger Danger

This, I believe, is my first of what would become many, MANY, WDHA "events"...listeners called in to win tickets to the Danger Danger show that evening at a club in northern NJ. From that list of winners, the station pulled 3 people as grand prize winners to have dinner with and meet the band before the show. All I had was a piece of paper that I had the guys in the band sign...on BOTH SIDES!

Martha Davis (The Motels)

I caught up with Martha Davis as she arived for soundcheck in Morristown, NJ. In the 80's, you could not escape hearing The Motels on the radio and MTV. She was very gracious to the fans waiting, taking pictures and signing for us! Martha was one of the acts on tour with The Go-Gos and Patty Smyth from Scandal. I didn't get any autographs from either of those bands but I did get "dissed" (in a nice way...I'm pretty sure he smiled as he passed me!) by John McEnroe, who's married to Patty Smyth

The Dead Daisies

I had the opportunity to meet The Dead Daisies when they toured on the 2013 Uproar Festival when it made a stop at the PNC in Jersey. I'm so glad I missed them! Because I had a much better and more unique opportunity a year later at the WDHA studios! The band was doing an on-air appearance to support their new EP. The great Curtis Kay at DHA was so nice to let me "sneak in" and hang in the hallway while the band warmed up! For about 30 minutes I had my own private acoustic show with vocalist Jon Stevens (INXS), guitarist Richard Fortus (GnR), keyboardist Dizzy Reed (GnR), bassist Marco Mendoza (everybody!) and drummer Brian Tichy (everybody!!). SO COOL! After they warmed up, the band signed my photo (guitarist David Lowy was no longer with them at this point.)

UPDATE 2 and 3 - How things have changed in just a couple of years! It's now 2017 and some lineup changes in the band have made The Dead Daisies all the more better (in my opinion)! Vocalist Jon Stevens has been replaced with one of my favorites, John Corabi and guitarist Richard Fortus has been replaced with the amazing Doug Aldrich! AND David Lowy is back with the band!! And in the past few years, with this new lineup, the band has put out a handful of kick ass albums!! So now, here in 2017, the band has hit the road promoting their new, live CD. And with that, first a stop at the WDHA studios on a Tuesday afternoon in July, followed by a Wednesday night show at The House of Independents in Asbury Park, NJ. All this yielding me a handful of signed items!

UPDATE 4 -Members John Corabi and Marco Mendoza were making the promotional rounds for the bands upcoming release and stopped by the WDHA studios once again. Naturally, I made an appearance as well and had them sign the new Rise Up CD single and Revolution insert!!

Def Leppard

Def Leppard was in Jersey to promote the release of their new album, "X". The CD was being released that day and the band stopped by WDHA on their way to a Wal-Mart store in Saddlebrook for an in-store signing!!! Since the band was running extremely late, there was no time for any autographs...they zoomed into the studio and zoomed out. They only stopped for ONE photograph of the entire group of us waiting outside...which their tour manager said "everybody will get a copy"...yea, right! Hey!! Anybody have a copy of that photo?? This was one of the rare times with no autographs...but I did shake hands with drummer Rick Allen.

UPDATE - Purchased item. While cruising around the internet, I decided to check into Rick Derringer's website. I found out that he offered some of his CDs autographed, so I wanted something from "the 70's", so I opted for a copy of Derringer Live!

Michael Des Barres

One of my favorite bands in the mid 70's, although short lived, was the band Detective. Probably considered a sort of "super group" of that time, the band consisted of Des Barres on vocals, former Steppenwolf guitarist Michael Monarch, former Yes organist Tony Kaye, drummer Jon Hyde from Hocus Pocus and bassist Bobby Pickett. I got to meet Michael at the 2017 Chiller Con and got to play for him my ringtone for incoming texts, the Detective song Grim Reaper. Google that song and for those of you who grew up in the 70's will remember hearing those opening riffs for a bunch of local radio commercials!

So, that got me doing a Goggle search which landed me at Pamela's own website where one could purchase a signed print of her classic 1968 Rolling Stone photoshoot. For those of you not familiar with who Pamela is, she's the famous rock and roll groupie, who back in the day, was...ummm, "friendly" with such folks as Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Jim Morrison, Gram Parsons, Waylon Jennings, and actors Michael Richards, Woody Allen and Don Johnson to name a FEW!

Pat Dinizio of The Smithereens / The Smithereens

Pat was doing a small tour of bookstores and was making a stop at Borders Books in Princeton, NJ. My buddy Rob Sims and I decided to sit in for what was a great evening of acoustic renditions of Smithereens songs...along with the classic Smithereens' Dairy Queen commercial song!! Since I saw other people doing it, I grabbed on of the posters of the wall and had Pat sign it.

Part 2 - The Smithereens were part of the lineup of MusicFest '05, a free(!) outdoor concert at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside, NJ. Also on the bill was headliner Joan Jett, They Might Be Giants and Joe Bonamassa among others. I was able to grab signatures from the 3 original members, vocalist Pat DiNizio, drummer Dennis Diken and guitarist Jim Babjak.

Part 2
My old pal Dave Iozzia caught up with the Smithereens doing a show at BB King's in NYC. Pat, Dennis and Jim all signed the Blow Up CD and Pat signed the soundtrack CD from his ESPN TV series.

Part 3
Once again old pal Dave I catches up with the Smitherens while performing down in Lakewood, NJ. All the guys graciously sign my copies of their latest...Meet The Smithereens and their new Christmas CD. Thanks all!!

Part 4
There should be no question that this is yet another acquire by the great Dave Iozzia! Dave "swiped" the dressing room door sign for the band to sign while at another appearance at NYC's BB King's.

Part 5
Yet one more item to add to the collection...the Smithereens 2011 CD insert signed by the band. I met up with the guys when they performed this year at my town's 3-day MusicFest.

Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels

RUN-D.M.C. is considered one of the most influential acts in the history of hip-hop and rap. Their collaboration with Aerosmith on "Walk This Way" was instrumental in breaking down the walls between rock music and rap. D.M.C. aka Darryl McDaniels (who prefers to be called "D") made an appearance at a benefit music sale put on by DJ Rich Russo. Rich's show, "Anything, Anything" airs on WDHA and The Peak. They did a couple of acoustic numbers then stayed for photos and signing for us guests. The band is vocalist Dorothy Martin, drummer Zac Morris, guitarist DJ Black and (Annie's favorite) bassist Gregg "Cash Money" Cash.

UPDATE - Met up again with Dorothy and the band twice in the span of 2 weeks. Once when the opened for Greta Van Fleet at The Starland, where I was able to get the band to sign a promo poster. ELP/Keith Emerson

Another "grand prize" win from WDHA that went from cool to sour to great...ELP was doing a Summer tour to promote their new CD. The shows were at outside venues. As grand prize winners, we were supposed to watch the entire show (Jason Bonham's band was the opening act) from the side of the stage and then meet ELP backstage after the show. That summer, there were alot of nasty thunderstorms with high winds rolling thru NJ. And, of course, the night of the show was another "stormy night". Not real bad, but just nasty! As it turned out, with the weather being potentially rough, Bonham decided not to play. And also due to the weather, it was decided that it might not be safe for us to be on the stage...so we ended up watching the show standing next to the soundboard stand. After the concert we made our way to the side of the stage where we met up with the DJ for DHA. He informed us that due to the weather and other things, ELP just got in their limo and went back to the hotel! Sucks, right? Now it gets better...the DJ (who's name I cannot remember and was a big ELP fan) told us that he knew which hotel the band was staying at and invited us to follow him over to see if the band would be hanging out in the hotel lounge. Well we did and they were...the DJ told their manager our story and we were promptly given a tour program, hats and shirts. We got to comfortably sit down for a while and chat one on one with Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer!! It turned out so much better than how it was supposed to be!

UPDATE - A number of years later, my pal Dave Iozzia was interviewing members of Keith Emerson's solo band and got Keith to sign the Brain Salad Surgery CD insert which is also signed by Greg Lake and Carl Palmer. Keith's signature is a bit hard to see...right below Carl's and to the left of Greg's. Thanks for the gift, Dave!!

UPDATE - Purchased item. While trolling around the internet, I stopped at Don's site and saw this awesome mini white Gibson double-neck, signed by Don and thought that it would be a cool item to add to the collection!

UPDATE 2 - Had the opportunity to see Don's show when he opened for REO Speedwagon and Styx during The 2017 United We Rock Tour. There were these beautiful signed prints available at the merch booth and I HAD to get one of those! Beautiful piece!

Frank Ferrer

OK, so Frank Ferrer may not be the "biggest" musician whos autograph I have but, thanks to my pal Dave Iozzia, it IS the biggest autograph I have! Dave caught up with the current Guns N' Roses (and one time Dead Daisies) drummer at a Psychedelic Furs show. Since he didn't have any G N' R stuff on hand, he had Frank sign the back of a Psychedelic Furs poster for me! AND....Frank also used to drum for The Furs at one time.

finger eleven

A great quad-billing show rolled through Starland Ballroom recently with Airbourne, Saving Abel, Theory of a Deadman and finger eleven. I completely missed out on Airbourne (due to a breakdown enroute) and Saving Abel (???), but caught up with Theory and James Black, Rick Jacket, Rich Beddoe and Sean Anderson of finger eleven. I missed out on vocalist Scott Anderson tho...

Fiona (Flanagan)

This is pretty cool. I had a feeling that 80's rocker, Fiona, would be making an appearance at a local Kip Winger show. But when that day came, I completely forgot all about it! So I decided to reach out to her and asked if she's sign some items for me and she agreed! So here they are, a CD insert of her third album (with the song "Everything You Do (You're Sexing Me)") and a (sexy) CD single cover! Many thanks!!

He was with the band between the Next and Infinity albums and had written three of the tunes on the Infinity album! He was also a possible contender for the vocal duties in the band, Asis, as well. I picked up this signed CD from Robert's website.

Flo (and Eddie)

Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan, respectively known as Flo and Eddie, were founding members of the 60's band, The Turtles. After The Turtles, they were involved with many different artists such as Frank Zappa, T. Rex, John Lennon, Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper and so on and so on. During their 2014 Happy Together tour (which I tried at THREE different venues!!) to get their signatures, I was only able to snag "Flo". Never even saw Eddie!! Oh well, next time...

Foghat

Foghat...man, I've always loved this band! Even though original member "Lonesome" Dave Preverett passed away a few years back, Foghat still rocks on. The line up has changed over the years but my bud Dave Iozzia caught up with the band while on tour with Blue Oyster Cult. Here's their recent 2-CD release signed inside by the current members (l to r) Craig MacGregor, Roger Earl, Charlie Huhn and Bryan Bassett.

UPDATE - Purchased item. After seeing the band at WDHA's 2016 Rock the Park (with Southside Johnny and ZZ Top also on the bill), I was inspired to visit their website where I found you could purchase a poster signed by the band...Roger Earl, Craig Macgregor, Bryan Bassett and Charlie Huhn.

UPDATE 2 - Just a few weeks after Rock the Park, my pal Dave Iozzia and I got to see the band do a full set at BB Kings in NYC! After the show, the band came out to meet with the fans. I got my wish to have drummer and founding member, Roger Earl, sign my copy of Fool For The City LP. That's Roger there on the cover, sitting in the middle of a New York City street with a fishing pole!! It's a great story that can be found at my friend Dave's site (click here) and read about the show (click here).

Lita Ford

FINALLY caught up with Lita at a recent Chiller Convention...after seeing a GREAT come back performance at BB Kings in NYC earlier this year!! She signed my CD booklets and even signed the Black CD twice since it didn't really show up too good on the front side.

UPDATE - I caught up with Lita once again during an in-store stop at the great Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ. Lita performed 3 acoustic numbers and then spent time signing and chatting with the fans. Lita signed my vinyl copy of Out For Blood along with my Greatest Hits CD cover and the insert from her latest (and OUTSTANDING!) new disc, Living Like A Runaway. Thanks, Lita!

UPDATE 2 - Purchased item. Lita was on her 2016 tour with a stop at The Starland Ballroom. During the show, she mentioned some stories in her autobiography, which was onsale at the merch booth. After the show, all copies of the book were sold out but you could get signed copies at her website.

Foreigner

During 2005/2006 the newly reformed Foreigner have been touring heavily. And, it seems, most of those stops have been or will be in New Jersey! The new lineup consists of original, founding member Mick Jones, Kelly Hansen on vocals, Jeff Pilson on bass, Jason Bonham on drums, Thom Gimbal on sax and guitar and Jeff Jacobs on keyboards. As evident by the links here, I've met most of these guys on some of those previous stops. My buddy Dave Iozzia grabbed this door sign on his 3rd (or is it the 4th now??) concert of this tour and was nice enough to have all the band members sign it for me!.

UPDATE - While on tour during the Summer with Styx, my pal Dave picked up this tour-only edition of a live disc of the new line-up, presigned by all the band members.

UPDATE 2 - Dave Iozzia and I caught up with the guys as they hit Jersey yet again during the 2005 - 2006 tour. I caught Mick Jones outside the Bergen PAC and had him sign my ticket stub.

UPDATE 3 - Another Dave Iozzia grab...Dave caught up with the band at a recent 2009 outdoor show and had the guys sign their brand new release.

UPDATE 4 - Need I say it...another Dave Iozzia grab...this time, new drummer Jason Sutter signed Dave's ticket for me. Welcome to the club, Jason...!

Lenny graciously allowed myself (and a few other fans) to hang out inside the lobby. After being on air, Frampton stopped for photos and signed everything for the fans.

Thanks again to my pal, Dave Iozzia, for setting this up for me! Aretha Franklin / BB King

One of THE BEST prizes from WDHA...!! It was one of those weekend contests that you would call in and be entered to win the grand prize, which was two tickets to the Grammys in NYC (along with an overnite stay!). Needless to say, I was THE lucky winner! It was at Radio City and granted, the seats were as far back and as high up as you could get...but they WERE dead center. It was a cool event to see in person. Whoopi Goldberg was the host, Metallica and Queensryche performed, among others. And after the show, as Donna and I were leaving, you could look down from the staircases and see everybody exiting from the main floor. I could see Donald Trump and Mayor David Dinkins, among others, and I figured that the bottom of the stairs would be roped off to us "little people"...WRONG!! We had missed a great opportunity to rub shoulders with some great artists!! But, as we went outside, Aretha was having a smoke before her limo pulled up and BB King was there waiting as well, so I asked them to sign the program booklet.

Yes, it's true...Debbie Gibson. I met her at the 2014 Chiller Con as well. Now here's the story...at some point, back in the early 90's (I'm assuming) I picked up this "limited edition" video (that's VHS, folks) and CD gift pack. Based on the price sticker, it probably cost around one dollar at the time. Best part is that I had NEVER OPENED IT! It was still shrinkwrapped. Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouillet

Once upon a time in the 80s there was a fantastic "metal-shred" band called Racer X. Master guitar slingers Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouillet gave Racer X it's life. After Racer X, Bruce went on to join The Scream (do yourself a favor and find that CD!) and Paul went on to Mr. Big. Time passes, things happen and Bruce and Paul are back together again doing the latest G3 tour with Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. I should also mention that founding member Mick Jones is still there banging out those killer riffs and Jeff Jacobs up there on keyboards. Many years before joing Foreigner, Thom handled sax and keyboard duties for one of my all time favs...Jon Butcher! If you're not aware, Neil Giraldo is not only the guitarist for Pat Benatar since the first album but he's also her husband. Now a few years ago, when I was trying to get Pat and Neil's autographs I had a bit of a "run in" with, I guess, her tour manager? Cannot remember her name but it was a one word name (like "Asshole" or something to that effect). Aside from complaining that myself and TWO OTHER "FANS" were being annoying and that she would call the cops on us, she would constantly be nasty and say that Pat or Neil will not sign anything! Well, a few years later I did see Neil and he was sort of "ok" but no sign of Pat...or "Asshole". UGH!

Sammy Hagar

I have always been a Sammy fan since the days of Montrose, but this story has just proved to me how great a person Sammy is! First, a little backstory...my wife, Donna, and I are the same age. I was born in June, her in December. One milestone year (I'm not putting ages here!) she threw me a surprise birthday party. Since she was having the same "milestone" in December, I couldn't do the surprise party thing TOO! So, I decided to try and write to a bunch of her favorite celebrities...actors, musicians, SAMMY, etc...and ask them to write a happy birthday wish on the supplied return card. I would have the returns go to my folks house, so she wouldn't know about it. Well, I didn't get quite as many back as I would have hoped, but I got a decent handful. So her birthday (in December) comes and goes and she's really surprised by the autographs and stuff. Jump ahead a few months to the following March. I stop at my folks house and my Mom says "another one of those cards came". I'm thinking, it's 3 months later...who's sending it NOW?? Well, it turns out it's from Sammy!! He APOLOGIZES for being on the road and not getting to his mail right away, so here's a belated birthday greeting!!! Now he could have very easily just said, "hey I missed the date" and tossed it in the trash. But instead, Sammy was nice enough to go through the trouble to fill out the card and send it back. Thanks, Sammy!!!

UPDATE - ...and the Waboritas
Ten years after getting Sammy's autograph I am now able to add The Waboritas to the roster!! On a recent tour stop here in NJ at the Bergen PAC, I had the opportunity to grab Mona (bass), Victor Johnson (guitar) and David Lauser (drums) for their autographs. I have to admit, myself along with just a handful of other fans, were a bit disappointed to not have the opportunity to get Sammy's autograph that night...next time!!

Halestorm

I caught up with Lzzy and the guys from Halestorm (Arejay, Joey and Josh) while on tour with Chevelle and Burn Halo. I have to say that, aside from being a tight, rockin' band (with a one of the coolest drum solos I've seen on stage in a long time!), they are the friendliest group to their fans that I've come across in awhile. I've been lucky to have a met a number of artists over the years and most all have been terrific, but to see a band focus on their fans the way that Halestorm does is just wonderful. And a nod to their manager for grabbing Lzzy off the tour bus just before showtime to sign my stuff and grab a quick photo! Many thanks!!

UPDATE - Thanks to WDHA, I won a quick meet and greet with Halestorm at the 2016 Food Truck and Rock Carnival where they handed out signed 8x10's to their fans.

Kelly Hansen (from Hurricane and now Foreigner)

I met Kelly as he, Mick Jones, Jason Bonham and Jeff Pilson arrived at the Count Basie Theater in Redbank, NJ during a tour in Foreigner. I had him sign the "classic" Hurricane CD booklet that was one of the many examples the PRMC sited as being "inappropriate" for young music buyers. Following releases had the woman removed from the photo. He also signed a booklet for a CD (Heaven and Earth) that he did vocal duties on along with Joe Lynn Turner, who had signed the booklet a few weeks earlier. Since I had to get these autographs, I covered my bases with my pal, Dave Iozzia (since Dave was going to the show, he was going to meet the guys after the show). So that's why the "blue" cover is signed in silver.

Heart

Heart was on tour during the Summer of 2014, with a stop in Morristown, NJ. It was a warm day, but not terribly hot. As I was patiently sitting and waiting, a gentleman from the venue came out to tell me that Ann and Nancy Wilson were already inside the building and probably won't be coming out until after the show, so there was no need for me to hang around. I said thanks and said I'll just hang for a bit longer. Not long after that, two other people came out of the theater and went off to grab something from a local store. When they came back, the woman asked me if I wanted my stuff signed? I told her yes and she took my stuff inside. A few minutes later, she came out with my stuff signed! She said it was the least she could do since I was sitting there for a while in "the heat"! Thanks!

UPDATE - Purchased item. After a few years of the Wilson sisters bickering, it seems like they've come back together and recently released a Live in Atlantic CD CD/DVD package! I picked up the signed CD from Newbury Comics.

Gary Hoey

Guitar great, Gary Hoey was making a tour stop at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on a HOT August day. As usual, I'm hanging in the parking lot in the late afternoon and NOBODY is around!! I later find out that Gary is about 3 hours late! Finally at 5:30, Gary and crew pull in the lot...with Gary DRIVING the minivan!! Very politely (after a long drive up from Maryland), Gary graciously signs my stuff and agrees to a photo. Sorry I couldn't make the show, but he promises to be in this area more often now that Gary lives in New Hampshire. Gary has been cranking out these great, rockin' Christmas CDs for years. Early in his career, he played guitar in a band called Heavy Bones and had I been a bit more on the ball (again!), I would have noticed that on drums for Heavy Bones was none other than Frankie Banali whom I had just met 2 days earlier!!

Glenn Hughes

OK...pay attention, cuz this one gets tricky...Joe Lynn Turner was stopping by (yet another) WDHA event. I grabbed a couple of inserts fom CDs that Joe was involved with and he signed 'em. Around the same time, my old art school (the duCret School of Art in Plainfield, NJ) was preparing to put together a fundraiser. I contacted Joe's management regarding some donations for our auction and as we were talking via e-mail, we got to talking about Joe's involvment in projects with Glenn Hughes. To make a long story short, I mailed out the inserts and they were returned to me with Glenn's signature...COOL!! But to be a jerk...when I opened the package I realized that one of the inserts was missing...so I again contacted Joe's managment, cried about it like a 4-year old, and got a replacement booklet but only signed by Joe...HEY!

UPDATE - AWESOME! Having been a long time fan of Glenn's I had NEVER seen him live...until now! Dave scored some passes to one of Glenn's TWO shows in the US at BB Kings in NYC. Dave and I spent a fair amount of time backstage and chatted with Glenn and the other band members throughout the evening. I finally had the opportunity to have Glenn add his signature to a classic Deep Purple album previously signed by David Coverdale. It was a FANTASTIC show where Glenn sounded perfect! Hope to see you again soon, Glenn!!

UPDATE II - Had the chance to meet up with Glenn once again while on tour with Black Country Communion. I had him sign the insert to his live concert DVD. So cool!

UPDATE III - Once again met up with the always gracious Glenn Hughes while on tour with his band California Breed. Glenn came over after soundcheck to meet and sign for the fans and I had him sign a few more items in my collection....

Bruce Kulick (KISS, Union, ESP, and tons of other stuff!!)

Caught up with legendary guitarist, Bruce Kulick, at the Chiller Theater Convention 2009...so it was another "pay-for-my-signature" show. Bruce was friendly and very gracious in signing my extra stuff for just a few bucks more, but I must mention that the woman with him at the show was a bit annoying with $$ in her eyes. She was all greed and cash to the point where she "zoomed in" on my wallet to point out that I had the cash available...YEESH!

Once again, many thanks to my pal, Dave Iozzia... hanging out with the guys in LA Guns at a soundcheck in Clifton, Dave was able to snag autographs from band members Steve Riley, Stacy Blades and Adam Hamilton! (Sorry Guns fans, Phil Lewis was SLEEPING at the time!!)

UPDATE - The Guns were back in NJ, on tour with WASP and Stephen Pearcy, playing at the Starland. I was hanging with Dave once again during soundcheck time and got to meet guitarist Stacy Blades. Naturally, lead singer Phil Lewis was not around at the time. Since Dave was heading back later that night to hit the show, he was kind enough to have Phil add his signature to a few CD inserts.

Following the death of Ronnie James Dio in 2010, the original lineup of drummer Vinny Appice, bassist Jimmy Bain and guitarist Vivian Campbell reunited along with vocalist Andrew Freeman to form Last In Line. Jimmy Bain passed away in 2016 and was replaced with bassist Phil Soussan. The current (2017) line up consists of Vinny Appice, Vivian Campbell, Andrew Freeman, Erik Norlander (keyboards) and Phil Soussan. I picked up the signed photo from the band's website but got Andrew's autograph when I saw the band live in early 2017.

LED ZEPPELIN!!

Auction item. THIS is the pinnacle of my collection for me! A limited edition poster promoting Led Zeppelin, The Ride, of which there were only 20 copies signed by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones. The poster was released to commemorate the opening of the Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, SC that opened April 2008 (and has since closed). The park featured a Led Zeppelin-themed rollercoaster - Led Zeppelin The Ride - and the three living members of the band signed this extremely limited "Commemorative Issue" poster, which was presented to the first 20 VIP guests at the grand opening.

You can read about the theme park's demise here.

John Lodge (Moody Blues and all around asshole...or at least the folks who run his website and online store!)

Purchased item. Well, sort of. You see, I PAID for an autographed CD from John Lodge's website BUT it was never sent! And, to be more insulting to the fans, I have written to them NUMEROUS TIMES about never receiving the CD and apparently, the people "responsible" for his store could care less, because they have never even bothered to write back...even once. So my advice is to AVOID his website at all costs, especially the store section. If you feel the need to spend your money with nothing in return, PLEASE send it to me!! (At least I would have the decency to e-mail you back and say thank you!)

UPDATE - OK, so I never did receive the CD. His "people" claimed they never saw the order and they never saw my repeated attempts to contact them about the order (bullshit and more bullshit). Then they claimed they ran out of stock and that a new shipment was arriving soon and that I should have my order in about a week. So after over another month had passed, I told my credit card company about the scam and I got a refund! DO NOT BUY FROM JOHN LODGE'S WEBSITE!!

A CD supposedly signed by John Lodge would be here,
but I wouldn't know because his store does not honor purchases made.

George and Lynch Mob were playing at a small club in Woodbridge and I stopped by during sound check for some autographs and then went back to the show later that night, where the band did a signing after the show.

Lynyrd Skynyrd / Ricky Medlocke

Once again, my pal Dave Iozzia of Daves On Tour comes thru with some great stuff for me! Dave was able to arrange an interview with Ricky Medlocke of Blackfoot/Lynyrd Skynyrd fame. The cool part is that Dave would have liked to do the interview over the phone, but since Skynyrd was performing 2 nights in Atlantic City, Ricky prefered to have Dave do the interview face-to-face! While Dave was there, Ricky signed the Blackfoot insert and then asked some of the Skynyrd guys (like Billy Powell and Gary Rossington) to sign the booklets as well. Thanks Ricky!
